Roads of the Maya: Reading and Talk

Mary Jo McConahay's National Geographic Traveler Book of the Month, Maya Roads: One Woman's Journey Among the People of the Rainforest.  McConahay will read from and discuss the book about Mexico's Chiapas and Guatemalan Peten and the Maya people, powerful history and eye-witness description which one reviewer said "could not be more timely."  Co-sponsored by Davis Religious Community for Sanctuary, one of the group's members has been key in finding justice in one of Guatemala's most horrific massacres, a case McConahay follows in one chapter.   Here is what another reviewer said: "Maya Roads explores horrific violence, exotic locales, and ancient ruins---but it also details kindness, compassion and dignity." This is a beautifully written book of deep travel by a journalist with a reporter's sharp eye and the heart of a witness.
