Trio Seven was formed indirectly when Matthew Grasso composed 7Th Creation, an original composition for three extended 7-string guitars. This inspired further exploration for the guitar ensemble aesthetic. Their mission is to expand the repertory of the extended 7-string guitar trio, through transcriptions and newly composed works. The extended 7-string guitar has one octave more in range than a traditional 6-string guitar. Trio Seven has made groundbreaking transcriptions of composers works not associated with the guitar, such as: Rachmaninoff, Debussy, Moussorgsky, Dvorak, and many others. In addition to performing classical masterworks, they also include improvised works in their programs. The members of Trio Seven are: Matthew Grasso, Eric Rasmussen, and Matthew Foley; the ensemble performs throughout Northern California.
