Half-naked Man Chases Mountain Lion to Save His Dog

The cougar grabbed terrier shepherd Tiki from the back deck of their home in the Sierra foothills.


Terrier shepherd Tiki is safe with her family at their home in Placerville, in the Sierra foothills, after being rescued from the jaws of a mountain lion by her owner, Kirk Fetter.

Fetter was sleeping peacefully when he was jarred awake by his wife’s shouts. “My wife heard a growl. Didn’t think too much about it until she heard my dog kind of yelp a bit and cry,” Fetter said.

His wife saw a mountain lion grab Tiki from their home’s back deck, and started to head into the woods dragging the dog in her jaws.

Fetter lept into action. No time to dress, he raced outside. “All I saw was a big ol’ long tail, and first instinct was to save my dog.”

The mountain lion dropped the dog and took off. Fetter downplays his hero status, “It’s a family member. You got to save your family.”

Tiki needed six staples to repair her wounds from the cougar.
