The Davis Dirt's Street Food Rodeo proved more fun than sitting on bales of hay as hundreds took part in the round up of the best street food in the region outside the Davis Food Co-op on 6th and G Street on Friday.
The down home scents of deep fried sweet potato fries, bacon wrapped hot dog, gourmet banh mi sandwiches, beer battered zucchini, South Asian pakora, and Addy's sizzling chicken, sausage, and shrimp paella drew all ages and appetites. As summer temperatures reached above 100 degrees, Hawaiian shaved ice, Thai iced tea, mango lassi, and Sudwerk's famous German IPA were in demand to keep the party cool and hopping.
The Sacramento Contra Dance Society formed a jovial country line dance next to the railroad line with music from the Faulkner Family and other bands playing in the background.
The fundraiser benefits the Davis School Gardens connecting food choices with personal health, community, farms and land.
"Everyone is so friendly. We plan to come back as often as we can," said Amy Breedlove, who drove Papa Dale's Drivin Diner truck from Elk Grove to share several of their specialty recipes including the Stack O' Mack -- mac and cheese, smoked bacon, and crisp apples.
To date, more than 35 food trucks are permitted to serve health conscious food in the region. Plan ahead for future street mobs, by visiting sacfoodmob.com
