Poll: Will You Pay Bank of America's $5 Debit Card Fee?
The banking giant announced last week that they will charge debit card users $5 a month starting next year.
Starting Saturday, it became about twice as hard for banks to make a profit off debit card usage: the fees they can collect every time a shopper's card is swiped was cut in half by a federal regulation.
In response, Bank of America will be charging debit card users $5 a month starting next year. As the popularity of plastic spreads across the country, it's a move that could affect a huge amount of the bank's customers.
The reaction has been swift. Competing banks have been quick to waive their fee-free debit cards in front of consumers, Bank of America's stock fell, and a Fox Business anchor cut up her Bank of America debit card on air.
