On December 16th @ 6pm, you are invited to join the global conversation on Islamophobia through the lens of reproductive justice in downtown Sacramento’s Naked Lounge Coffee. FREE *Drinks not included

We can not ignore the recent global events and the conversation that is and isn’t being had when it comes to Islamophobia and the refugee crisis. So RJ Hour’s December mixer will be opening a safe space to talk about reproductive justice and the impact of Islamophobia on women.

RJ Hour’s mixers are usually held at Mango’s Antro in Midtown on 2nd Wednesdays. However, this special mixer will instead be at Naked Lounge Coffee downtown on H street, December 16th and starts at 6pm. Come for an hour of good conversation, new friends, empowerment and coffee (or tea or beer).

WHY Islamophobia & Reproductive Justice?

The messaging that is being plastered across our feeds and broadcast across our airwaves is impossible to get away from. There are many lens we can choose to look through when we internalize these messages—they want phobia. We want feminism.

We want to be clear: Islamophobia is real and threatens women everywhere.

It is definitely an RJ issue when Muslim women in the US have a greater chance of being street harassed and having their bodies policed by society now more than ever.

It is definitely an RJ issue when the recent Paris Attacks have brought a staggering increase (on top of already high rates) of physical violence against Muslim women.

It is definitely an RJ issue when Muslim women have to fight for their right to raise children who aren’t threatened, teased, assaulted, targeted, or killed because of their faith.

It is an RJ issue anytime a mother makes decisions for the survival of her family, even if that means leaving her home country. And it is an RJ issue when those mothers come here and are met with intolerance and violence.

Everyone is talking now. When and how you decide to join the conversation matters for all women, especially our Muslim sisters.
