Robbery Victim Shot: Took 'Too Long' To Give Up Wallet, Cell

The man was walking to his car Wednesday morning in Fairfield when approached by the armed suspect, police said.

FAIRFIELD, CA – A man in Fairfield was shot in the shoulder Wednesday morning after he reportedly delayed in surrendering his billfold and cell phone to a robber, police said.

The victim, in his mid-30s, told officers he was walking to his car near Jefferson and Oregon streets at about 5:50 a.m. when approached by a male who demanded his wallet and phone, according to the Fairfield Police Department.

"As the victim handed over their cell phone to the suspect, the suspect began to get impatient," police said. "The suspect yelled that the victim was taking too long and began to wave a gun around. As the suspect was waving the gun, it went off with a single shot striking the victim on the shoulder."

Initially, as the area was dimly lit, the victim did not realize the man was armed, police said. He called police from a nearby residence, emergency responders arrived, and he was transported to an area hospital suffering from the single gunshot injury that was determined to be non-life threatening, the department said.

The suspect, who fled the scene after the shooting, was described as a black adult wearing a hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled up over the his head, police said, adding that the victim was unable to provide any further description.
