Starting Off the Week With Relaxation in Davis (VIDEO)

Weekly meditation groups meets in downtown

Every Monday night from 7 to 9 p.m., the Davis Shambhala Meditation Center hosts a discussion group called Foundations. The event, at 133 D St., Suite H, also starts with a 15-minute meditation, introductions, and a free dinner. Usually the dinner has a theme, such as international or seasonal dishes. Families are welcome.

"Foundations is a space where people can discuss their own personal interests and thoughts as it relates to spirituality, and how meditation practice can assist with daily life challenges," said Asata Radcliffe, founder of Foundations and member of the Foundations team, in an e-mail. "Most people who come always return."

Radcliffe said in the e-mail that anyone from any religion (or not religious) are welcome to attend. She said Foundations doesn't recruit members, so people usually feel very welcome.

Although the event is free, donations are also accepted.

The Davis Shambhala Meditation Center functions as a place for the practice of meditation, study of Buddhist and Shambhala teachings, and enjoyment of the community, known as sangha.

The center features weekly classes, weekend workshops and single-evening programs in Buddhism and the Shambhala path. Meditation sessions are open to the public and free. Individual meditation instruction, also free, is offered during most public meditation sessions.
