
UC Davis swimmer and graduate Scott Weltz finished fifth in the men's finals for the 200-meter breastroke Olympic event today in London, according to the San Jose Mercury News. The United States' Clark Burckle finished after Weltz with a time of two minutes, 9.25 seconds.
25-year-old Weltz swam the race in two minutes and 9.02 seconds. He gained the title of "accidental Olympian" since he went unexpectedly far after winning an in the trials.
Daniel Gyurta of Hungary won the race with a world record time of two minutes, 7.28 seconds. Great Britain's Michael Jamieson placed second and Ryo Tateishi of Japan won third place.
