Yolo County Residents Asked To Spare The Air
On Spare the Air days, residents are asked to reduce their driving.
DAVIS, CA — Residents in Davis and elsewhere in the Yolo-Solano Air Quality Management District are asked to spare the air Tuesday, Aug. 27, when air pollution is forecast to be high, resulting in smoggy conditions.
During spare the air days, those within the Yolo-Solano Air Quality Management District, which includes all of Yolo County and portions of Solano County such as Dixon, Rio Vista and Vacaville, are asked to reduce their driving by cutting back on at least one car trip to help lower pollution.
A Spare the Air alert is also in effect Tuesday for the Sacramento region, while the Bay Area is under an alert Monday.

According to Ysaqmd.org:
Vehicle emissions produce roughly 70 percent of the pollutants that create summer smog. The Sacramento region, which includes Yolo-Solano, does not meet federal health standards for smog. Smog can impact the health of all residents, but especially young children, the elderly and those with respiratory ailments such as asthma.
To help reduce the number of high-smog days, Spare The Air alerts are called when air pollution is forecasted to be high between May and September. On Spare The Air Days, please drive less. This could mean taking public transit, carpooling, biking, walking or telecommuting. For more information, visit sparetheair.com.
