• Kern County Cooling Centers to Open June 1 (kuzz.com) — Delano residents will have two official county cooling centers this summer at the Jefferson Center on Jefferson Avenue and the 11th Avenue Community Center on West 11th Avenue. Kern County will open these and other centers June 1–September 22 whenever extreme heat is forecast, with hours from 1 to 8 p.m. and daily opening decisions announced by 11 a.m. the prior day.

• Hurtado focuses on needs of smaller airports, especially in the Central Valley (hanfordsentinel.com) — Delano’s small airport could see new funding and services if Sen. Melissa Hurtado’s SB 661 passes, redirecting aviation fuel revenues toward smaller fields. The bill and a new LA flight from Bakersfield’s Meadows Field aim to boost regional travel, jobs, and economic opportunities for communities like Delano across Kern County.

• Assemblymember Bains touts Kern County fentanyl task force, receives nearly $11M in funds (bakersfieldnow.com) — Delano residents are represented at the center of Kern County’s fight against fentanyl, as Assemblymember Jasmeet Bains has helped secure nearly $11 million in state funding for the county’s task force. The program has already created Kern’s first inpatient detox program for Medi-Cal patients and, since July 2024, helped remove more than 224 pounds of fentanyl from local streets.
