2 James Beard Foundation Finalists Hail from Del Mar-Carmel Valley Restaurants
Addison at the Grand Del Mar in Carmel Valley and Carl Schroeder at Market Restaurant + Bar in Del Mar are finalists in the prestigious 2013 James Beard Foundation Awards.

Two local restaurants join the likes of Emeril Lagasse and Andrew Zimmern in food, restaurant and drink excellence and notoriety.
Carl Schroeder of Market Restaurant + Bar in Del Mar is a finalist in the James Beard Foundation's Best Chef in the West category and Addison at The Grand Del Mar in Carmel Valley in the Outstanding Wine Program category.
The James Beard Foundation Awards are the nation’s preeminent recognition program honoring professionals in the food and beverage industries. The Awards celebrate outstanding achievement each of the following categories: restaurants, chefs, books, journalism, restaurant design, restaurant graphics, broadcast media, and special achievement awards.

This is not Schroeder's first nomination to the James Beard Foundation Awards. In 2004, he was named the James Beard Foundation's California Chef of the Year.
He has also earned California Travel Association's “Top 8 Chefs in Southern California” award and been featured in Bon Appetit, Coastal Living, Gourmet, the Los Angeles Times and the New York Times.

Schroeder graduated from the Culinary Institute of American in New York in 1996. He worked at several restaurants before joining Arterra Restaurant in Del Mar as executive chef in 2002.
In 2006, he opened Market Restaurant + Bar on Via De La Valle.

Addison has nearly 3,600 wine selections on its menu. It boasts an ideal tasting environment and glassware, perfect storage of wines and knowledgeable service.
The awards will be held May 3 and 6 in New York City. Tickets are $475 per person. Ted Allen of the Food Network will host the event.
