Burglars Using Rocks, Bricks to Break into Carmel Valley Homes

Homes in the Carmel Country Highlands have been targeted in recent weeks for their jewelry, coins, cash and small electronics, police said.

The San Diego Police Department's Northwestern Division is warning Carmel Country Highlands residents about a recent burglary series where "suspects used rocks or bricks to break the rear windows to doors and ransacked the homes."

The burglars have mostly been making off with jewelry, coins, cash and small electronics while residents have been gone for two to three hours midweek in the daytime, according to a Monday post on the division's Facebook page. There have been 11 cases since February, including five in May.

During a May 30 burglary on the 3600 block of Berryfield Court, "witnesses saw two dark skinned males jump the rear wall to a residence with a pillow case in hand. The two suspects fled in a silver Toyota Highlander or 4-runner," the post stated.

Residents are being asked to report suspicious activity at 858-484-3154.
