City Of Del Mar: Arts Committee To Consider Sculpture Submissions Aug. 25

The Arts Advisory Committee on Aug. 25 is scheduled to choose five sculptures from 13 submissions for display at locations in downtown Del Mar.

The work encompasses an array of iron and glass, some of it patina-coated and some of it brilliant with color.

Art’s Advisory Committee members will use a ballot system to select and rank the artwork and to establish a list of alternate pieces.

The committee will consider public comment submitted by email before noon Aug. 25 to cityclerk@delmar.ca.us.

Participating artists include: Hugo Heredia; Ernie Pick; Petrello & Graham; Becky Guttin; Ron Tatro; Yuriy Akopov & Inna Pankratova; Yuriy Akopov; Peter Mitten; David Beck Brown; Jeffery Laudenslager & Deanne Sabeck, and Maidy Morhous.

In June, the City Council approved the Temporary Outdoor Sculpture Program and an application by the Del Mar Foundation to install concrete pedestals to display pieces at 15th Street and Camino del Mar; 15th Street and Stratford Court; the southeast corner of 14th Street and Camino del Mar; the southeast corner of 12th Street and Camino del Mar, and the northeast corner of 9th Street and Camino del Mar.

The Foundation, which is underwriting the cost of the program, later engaged a consultant to issue a call for art  and review the submissions in accordance with Del Mar’s public art policy. Sculptures would remain on display for up to 23 months.

The remote meeting of the Arts Advisory Committee begins at 2 p.m. Aug. 25.
