City Of Del Mar: Parking Changes Proposed To Support Economic Recovery

To support businesses and promote Del Mar’s economic recovery, proposed changes to the Parking Code are headed to the City Council for consideration after public outreach and advisory board meetings are completed next month.Designed to align with industry standards and best practices in other cities, the proposed amendments include:

• Lowering the required parking rate for restaurants that are 4,000 square feet (sf) or less from one parking space per 90 sf of gross floor area to one parking space per 300 sf;
• Allowing restaurants to have one on-site accessory food and beverage cart that is not subject to required parking; and
• Allowing existing commercial buildings with non-conforming parking in the Central Commercial zone to more easily change out tenants to accommodate retail, restaurant, or personal service uses in vacant tenant spaces (5,000 sf maximum size) in reliance on existing parking.
