Del Mar: As Election Approaches, A Reminder On Campaign Signs

As the November election approaches, residents and property owners are reminded that campaign signs must remain on private property.

Recently, the City has received complaints regarding campaign signs posted too close to the road and on public property, particularly in residential neighborhoods.

While it may appear the boundary between private and public property is where the road meets the front yard, the public right-of-way, in fact, extends about 10 feet inward from the edge of the road or curb.

Signs of any type posted in the public right-of-way are in violation of the Del Mar Municipal Code and may be confiscated. The City asks for the public’s assistance to ensure that campaign signs are posted only on private property and clear of the public right-of-way.
