Del Mar Housing Committees Present Reports

In a presentation to the City Council June 15, subcommittee members of the 6th Cycle Housing Element Ad-Hoc Citizens’ Task Force summarized findings of information gathered over four months and debated during nine meetings.Del Mar is in the midst of updating the Housing Element of its Community Plan. State authorities require the update to show zoning capacity for up to 163 new housing units across a range of affordability.The volunteer task force has assisted City planners with identifying options for an equitable and compatible distribution of the units across Del Mar. A 10-page report by the task force’s Housing Production and Preservation Sub-Committee explores the potential of city-owned property, property on the Del Mar Fairgrounds and accessory dwelling units in residential and commercial zones.Also presenting reports on Monday were members of the Communications Subcommittee and Community Assistance Subcommittee.A draft of the updated Housing Element is due to the City Council in October.
