Demolition, vegetation removal and grading is set to begin May 8 to replace a drainage trench just west of the street ends between 6th and 8th streets.

Del Mar Bluffs Stabilization 4

On May 1, the San Diego Association of Governments launched Del Mar Bluffs Stabilization 4, a $5.8 million construction program to shore up the fragile bluffs and improve drainage along the railway between 15th Street and Carmel Valley Road. Early activities include creating staging areas near the North Torrey Pines Road rail bridge and at locations along the railway between 8th and 15th streets. Workers are set to install controls to prevent stormwater pollution and begin drainage improvements, which include replacing a "headwall" for storm drain pipes on the beach at 13th Street and pouring new concrete to strengthen a storm drain outfall at 12th Street.Later, at 11th Street, support beams for a seawall will be replaced East of the railroad tracks, at 10th Street, a timber wall that supports a drainage channel will be lengthened and repaired. The open drainage channel between 6th and 8th streets will be replaced.During a presentation to the City Council on in February, SANDAG officials said future projects -- Phase 5 -- would include more pilings and drainage structures at a cost of $24 million.
