Juvenile Justice Commission Honors Community Employees, And Organizations Awards Luncheon at USD, Joan Kroc Center For Peace Studies set for Thursday, July 17th, 2014 at noon
San Diego, California: The Juvenile Justice Commission will honor community advocates from juvenile probation, child welfare services, education, law enforcement, juvenile court, judges and volunteers from all affiliated services, as well as private organizations. This awards luncheon is held to honor employees and volunteers who have personified excellence and performance above and beyond the call of duty and job description in order to improve the lives of our dependent and delinquent youth.
The awards luncheon will be held at the University of San Diego (USD) Joan Kroc Center for Peace Studies on July 17th at noon. The keynote speaker is this year is Shane Harris from Just in Time for Foster Youth. Shane went through a separation from his parents at a young age because of his mother’s drug addiction and his father’s death due to cancer of the liver. The aftermath of these events led to Shane being placed in foster and group homes where he survived abuse, among other challenges many foster
youth encounter. By spending 13 challenging years in the system, Shane overcame many obstacles and is now pursuing a BA in Social Work and Biblical Studies. Shane also sits on two powerful boards: S.A.V.E San Diego and the statewide board of California Coalition for Youth where he leads the San Diego Division. As a youth pastor, future author, foster youth advocate, and motivational speaker, Shane believes that after his struggles in school, the system, and gangs that nobody is out of it until they consider themselves out.
The awards luncheon hosts San Diego dignitaries, policy makers and newsmakers. More than 200 people, educators, elected officials, law enforcement, probation, social service agencies and community members, attended the awards luncheon last year.
