San Diego County Sheriff's Department: Update: Death Investigation – San Diego Central Jail

On May 30, 2021, thirty-five-year-old Lester Marroquin was pronounced deceased at the San Diego Central Jail. The Homicide Unit has received the autopsy report from the Medical Examiner's Office.

Marroquin was found unresponsive on the floor of his cell. Marroquin and the floor were wet. Marroquin was alone in his cell and ingested a deadly quantity of water. The Medical Examiner's Office determined Marroquin's "chemistry panel was significant for decreased levels of sodium, chloride, and potassium consistent with acute water intoxication." The cause of Marroquin's death was acute water intoxication, and the manner of death is suicide.
