Looking to start or improve your career in the marketing and digital media world?
SDSU’s College of Extended Studies is offering two early-November courses in its Professional Certificate in Marketing and Digital Media program. Video for Digital Media Platforms I takes place Saturdays, Nov. 1-22, 9 am-1 pm, while Developing the Creative Brief is scheduled Mondays, Nov. 3-24, 6-9 pm.
Denise Flores, a former student, emphasized that the program attracts a diverse group.
“There were students in the 50-plus range, who are catching up on the new things trending,” she said. “There were journalists who are trying to go digital. There were people who are trying to be more competitive by learning new skills. And then there were young people trying to gain a competitive advantage in their field or switch over to a new field.”
In the Video for Digital Media Platforms I course, you will learn how to create your own YouTube channel using Flip cams (provided in class) and iMovie or Movie Maker, depending on your preferred software platform. You will also be shown how to host and upload your videos to a blog or website. Instructor Matt Funke is a freelance video editor.
The Developing the Creative Brief course focuses on the tools necessary to understanding your target market sufficiently to produce a creative brief and how to craft it to inspire the creative process. This course also delves into using the brief as a guide to evaluate whether the creative is on strategy. Instructor Robert Chisholm is the global marketing communications manager for Hewlett Packard.
SDSU’s College of Extended Studies has taken the best curricula from its previous certificate programs in Marketing and Media, and Digital and Social Media, and combined them into a career-enhancing certificate program to benefit you in both fields. This program provides all the skills and knowledge you need to succeed in today’s digital environment. You can tailor your curriculum to your career aspirations, and even take additional courses and receive a specialty certificate, further enhancing your resume.
The programs were developed in partnership with SDX (formerly the San Diego Ad Club), the San Diego Press Club and the SDSU School of Journalism & Media Studies, and are taught by professionals who are leaders in their field.
