SDSU Offers Grant Writing Program

San Diego State University offers a Professional Certificate in Grant Writing program online.

San Diego State University is offering a Professional Certificate in Grant Writing online program to help individuals and companies compete for funding in an increasingly challenging environment.
The program, which is available through SDSU’s College of Extended Studies, focuses on the fact that grant writing is a key component of securing funding for many of San Diego’s most dynamic organizations. San Diego alone is home to thousands of nonprofit organizations ranging from large educational institutions and hospitals to small startup agencies seeking funding through various grants.
Jay Katz, who has been writing grant proposals since 1990 and started his own business as full-time grant writer in 1995 is the program instructor.
“People who will benefit the most are those who are in the nonprofit field and looking to build on their skills. There are those who may be pursuing a career with a nonprofit organization, and they want to gain skills and make themselves more attractive to potential employers,” Katz said.
To complete the certificate program, students must finish two courses: Introduction to Grants and Funding Research along with Grant Proposal Development. Both courses are being offered again during the fall semester. Introduction to Grants and Funding Research takes place Sept. 2 to Oct. 5; Grant Proposal Development is Oct. 20-Nov. 30.
