Sharks Spotted Near Del Mar Beach

Lifeguards spotted a juvenile white shark Monday off 29th Street and Tuesday off 15th Street, according to the city of Del Mar.

DEL MAR, CA – Lifeguards in Del Mar are monitoring local waters after shark sightings in the area.

Lifeguards spotted a juvenile white shark Monday off 29th Street and Tuesday off 15th Street, according to the city of Del Mar. Neither shark approached the shore or showed signs of aggression.

The shark sightings are among others reported recently by lifeguards from neighboring cities.

For the sightings in Del Mar, the California Marine Safety Chiefs Association does not require advising the public and recommends leaving the beach open, according to the city. Still, lifeguards posted advisory signs to warn beachgoers. Signs will remain posted for 24 hours, officials said.
