Students at LePort Montessori School Solana Beach Release Ladybugs

Students celebrate Earth Day and protecting the environment by releasing beneficial bugs into their schoolyard to help local vegetation

Students at Leport Montessori School Solana Beach in Del Mar recently bugged out in celebration of Earth Day as they released ladybugs throughout the schoolyard and back into the environment on plants, flowers and trees. Leading up to Earth Day, students learned that ladybugs serve as a natural pesticide by feeding on insects that could otherwise harm the health of gardens, trees and shrubs.

Students also participated in a number of other Earth Day activities during the week, including planting flowers in the schoolyard, learning about the environment during presentations from Mad Science and Wild Wonder, participating in a recycling drive and more. LePort Montessori teaches the importance of community and exploring nature at an early age.
