4,000-Plus Phony Hoverboards Seized at SGV Warehouse

INDUSTRY, CA - Sheriff's investigators seized more than 4,000 suspected counterfeit hoverboards worth about $1.5 million Thursday at a business in Industry.

The Counterfeit and Piracy Enforcement Team at the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Community Partnerships Bureau learned of the possible illegal sale of counterfeit hoverboards bearing phony "UL" labels and confirmed with the safety science company that they have not safety tested or certified any electronic components of any hoverboard, officials said.

"An investigation by CAPE Team investigators confirmed that a business operating under the name "Rollitech" ... was selling unauthorized 'UL' listed hoverboards," according to a sheriff's department statement.

Deputies seized more than 4,000 falsely "UL" labeled hoverboards after serving a search warrant at the business about 10 a.m. and were holding them pending further investigation.

No arrests have been made.
