Morgan Finalist for ESPN Award

The honors keep coming for Alex Morgan.
Already preparing for a trip to the London Olympics with the US Women's Soccer Team, the Diamond Bar High graduate is being feted by ESPN.
The cable sports giant has named Morgan one of five finalists for the Breakthrough Athlete of the Year award as part of its annual ESPY Awards event.

Online voting for the July 11 awards opened Wednesday, with votes being taken until 8:59 p.m. July 9. The awards will be broadcast at 6 p.m. July 11 from the Nokia Theater in downtown Los Angeles.
Morgan is facing stiff competition from other athletes who burst onto the national scene in the past year. The other nominees include college basketball player Anthony Davis, college football player Robert Griffin III, pro football player Rob Gronkowski and pro basketball player Jeremy Lin.

Viewers can vote in each of the 33 categories, including Best Team, Best Championship Performance, Best Upset, Best Coach and Best Male and Female Athlete. Morgan's US Soccer teammate Abby Wambach is a finalist for best female athlete.
Morgan is with her teammates in Utah preparing for an international friendly game Saturday against Canada, which will be broadcast by NBC beginning at 10:30 a.m.
The US team will open the Olympic tournament at 9 p.m. July 25 against France.
