Body Of Homeless Woman Found Near Train Tracks

A homeless woman who hadn't been seen in a few days was found near the San Gabriel Valley railroad track, Friday.

POMONA, CA — Friends of a homeless woman in Pomona discovered her body near the railroad tracks in Pomona, Friday, police said. People who knew the woman told police she hadn't been seen "in a while," according to the Pomona Police Department Sgt. Briant Hagerty. Her name has not yet been released to the public.

The woman, believed to be in her mid-30s to early 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene, at about 1:45 p.m. in the 3300 block of West Temple Avenue, Hagerty said. The body may have been there "for a day or so," authorities said. Some belongings and a pitched tent believed to be the woman's were found nearby.

There was no evidence that she had been hit by a train, according to Hagerty.

"The woman's acquaintances said she suffered from medical problems," he said.

The police investigation prompted the closure of the tracks between the Industry and Downtown Pomona stations, temporarily disrupting trains on Metrolink's Riverside Line.
