All Clear following Investigation of Suspicious Item in Walnut

Suzanne Middle School was closed in Walnut on Tuesday due to a suspicious item found at a La Puente Road bus stop.

WALNUT, CA — A middle school in Walnut was closed today due to an unattended suspicious suitcase found at a bus stop at La Puente Road near Pierre Road in Walnut.

The case was reported to Walnut officials at approximately 6:30 according to Walnut division of Los Angeles County Sheriff Department's Sgt. Byron Ward.

"It's all over, they are packing up and the roads have reopened," Ward said. "No explosive devices were found."

A second suspicious package reportedly required a closer look, in the area of La Puente Rd. between Citadel and Lemon Avenue. The box was discovered by the arson and explosive team that was on scene and investigated also according to Ward.

"It just so happened that our arson and explosive team noticed the box and investigated," he said.

The initial call came when a suspicious suitcase was found near McCallister and La Puente Rd at approximately 6 a.m. Tuesday morning. The second suspicious item, a large box was found down approximately 4 blocks away near McCallister at approximately 10 a.m. Neither container held explosives according to Ward.

"We are appreciative when people point things out, the more who point out investigate , " Sgt. Ward

As a precaution the nearby Suzanne Middle School has been closed for the day.

Walnut High School classes returned to session.
