City Should Cut WCCA Membership, Control Wild Coyotes
After back-to-back years of coyote attacks, why does the City of Diamond Bar continue to belong to the Wildlife Corridor Conservation Authority?
Country living. After an in-home attack by a coyote in North Diamond Bar, wisdom whispers it is time to revisit that phrase. The city and citizens need to adjust before another tragedy occurs. Residents need to know how to keep the odds in our favor- and the protocol for when things go wrong on the urban interface. Right up at the top of my list I would like to ask our City council-people
What over-riding value does Diamond Bar get in exchange for its membership in the Wildlife Corridor Conservation Authority (WCCA)? The umbrella species- coyotes, bobcats and mountain lions- they can clear any legal fence in the city.
In 1995/96- When WCCA purposely witheld information relative to Diamond Bar's interests and then repeatedly gave up right to title of property it did not own- this citizen believed we should have walked out then for bad faith and implicating us as a member of shoddy government practices. It's not too late to make that mistake right. Some day it might be.

Coyotes can be a source of humor- such as when long time resident Monte Delgado watched one flip apricots into the air from off the ground- then eating the fruit he caught mid-air.The next day- where the coyote had played- were cow-pie sized diarrhea-dung.
If Diamond Bar didn't belong to WCCA- resources could then be diverted to community education. We need a balanced approach. Coyotes are part of the native species - erradication would not be good- the rodent populations would explode. These animals are just one reason to not install doggie doors directly to the yard. The others include skunk, raccoon and burglars.

Legislation allowing people to fend for themselves when people and pets are at serious risk is justified.
Diamond Bar cutting the tether of WCCA would serve clarity. First, it would prove it is possible for government to disengage from non-productive government agreements. Secondly, when there is a conflict, we would gain ethical clarity on which we value more: family life or wildlife.
