Council of Governments to set appropriate course for the future following departure of Executive Director

San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments to reflect on positive changes over past two years

ALHAMBRA, Calif. – The San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments will reflect on the accomplishments and progress it has made and set an appropriate course for the future following the announcement that Executive Director Andrea Miller is leaving to become City Manager in Covina, its President said today.

Miller, who will stay on board through the end of her contract on Feb. 19, has led the joint powers authority through a series of positive changes during her two years as Executive Director. These include the development of a comprehensive strategic plan, improved financial stability and a renewed commitment to the Alameda Corridor East Construction Authority.

“We’re sad to see Andrea leave, but are thrilled for the opportunity she has in Covina,” said Mary Ann Lutz, Mayor of Monrovia and President of the COG. “Her many contributions to the COG will be felt for years to come, and we look forward to continuing to work with her in her new role.”

Lutz said the COG will hold a special meeting in the next few weeks to determine how best to proceed with the Executive Director search. This could mean hiring an interim executive while a search is conducted for a permanent replacement. The COG represents 31 cities and 1.9 million residents in the San Gabriel Valley.

“We want to reflect on the accomplishments and changes that have been implemented over the past two years and develop a course of action that positions the COG to move forward,” Lutz said.

Miller, who joined the COG in February 2013, was hired this week as City Manager in Covina, replacing Daryl Parrish, who retired in December.

“I appreciate the opportunity to have served as Executive Director, and thank the Executive Committee and Governing Board for their support these past two years,” she said. “The COG is increasingly viewed as a leader in this region in transportation, sustainability and economic development, and I’m confident that the foundation and team we’ve built will sustain this positive momentum.”

Before joining the COG, Miller served as Interim City Manager in San Bernardino and City Manager in La Mirada. She also served as a trial lawyer for the Los Angeles law firm of Manning & Kass, Ellrod, Ramirez Trester LLP.
