DBHS Baseball, Softball in 2nd; Boys Tennis Makes Top 10 in Southern Section

DBHS baseball and softball both stand in second place in Hacienda League standings, giving them high playoff hopes. Boys Tennis ranked in top ten in CIF standings.

In off-season sports news: on Saturday, April 23 in the high school parking lot, the Brahmas Wrestling team will be hosting a car wash and donate half the proceeds to the American Red Cross – Japan Disaster Relief. Softball: Overall record: 9-8-0; Hacienda league record: 4-1-0

Diamond Bar now stands in seconds place after two crucial league victories against Rowland and Los Altos, putting them only one loss behind the high-scoring and undefeated Bonita Bearcats.

Senior short stop continues to connect with a bat with a .607 on base percentage (OBP), putting her in first place in Hacienda league standings.

The lady Brahmas travel to Diamond Ranch on Friday, looking to steal a win on the road, with the first pitch at 3:30 p.m. 

Baseball Overall record: 10-8-0; Hacienda League record: 5-1-0; Home Record: 7-3-0

Despite having lost their last two of three games, the Brahmas have protected their home field with an impressive 7-3 record at home. They have also bypassed Los Altos in Hacienda League standings, and are now in second place.

Congratulations to sophomore outfielder Tommy Delgadillo for being selected as Player of the Week. He was a huge contributing factor to the Brahmas earning their fifth league win in a victory against Los Altos.

Sophomore outfielder Austin Szulczewski was named Player of the Week for the Brahmas the week before after leading his team in hits and RBIs the first week of April.

Brahmas senior pitcher Kenny Mathews also came to play by throwing a complete 7 inning shut-out game and had 13 strike-outs during the week of April 10.

Diamond Bar looked to regain their momentum in the Don Lugo Tournament against Los Alamitos Wednesday, but suffered an 8-2 loss. The Brahmas will close their week facing their cross town rivals Diamond Ranch at the home of the Panthers Friday at 3:30 p.m.

Boys Tennis: Overall record: 12-3; Hacienda League record: 8-1 in league.

Diamond Bar High School is in the top ten in the CIF Division II polls and has only one loss in Hacienda League against Walnut. Perhaps their most anticipated match-up of the season is the Thursday, April 21 re-match against Walnut at the home of the Mustangs.

Diamond Bar looks to their top ranked singles player, Junior Steward Yang and top doubles team, seniors Brandon Huang and Captain, Calvin Li to bring home the victory against the Mustangs.

Currently, Walnut is one spot ahead of the Brahmas in CIF standings who are currently standing at the seventh spot.

Track and field:  High Jumper Frankie Martinez has been impressing league opponents. The Varsity shuttle hurdle team came in first place in their heat last week at the Mt. Sac Invitational with a time of 1:03.74.

The Brahmas face league opponents Los Altos Thursday, April 21 but will unfortunately be without sprinter Udodori Okwandu, due to a hamstring injury. Okwandu has been an integral part of the Varsity women’s 4x100 relay as well as the 100 and 200 meter races.

Swimming: Varsity swimming faced Rowland Wednesday in a home meet at Walnut high school. As their season continues, head coach Patrick Murphy looks to the meet against Rowland and next week’s April 27  meet against Walnut a tune up for the Varsity Preliminaries in May.
