Diamond Bar Football Notches First Win

Led by the senior duo of Henry Omana and George Katrib, Diamond Bar High earned its first victory of the 2011 season with a 40-13 win against Hacienda Heights Wilson (0-2) Friday night.

Omana and Katrib had monster games for the Brahmas, who trailed 13-3 during the first quarter and rolled off 37 unanswered points in the blowout.

"We really turned it on in the second, third and fourth quarters," head coach Ryan Maine said. "Henry played really well. He was throwing a great ball and hitting all his wide receivers."

Omana finished 13 of 21 for 371 yards and four touchdown passes. His favorite target by far was Katrib, who caught three of those touchdown passes. He finished with seven receptions for 172 yards.

So far in the young season, Katrib has 16 receptions for 299 yards and four touchdowns.

Senior running back Jamaal Clayton (13 carries, 76 rushing yards, one touchdown) led the Diamond Bar rushing attack and the defense was led by sophomore defensive back Tyler Brown (one interception) and Menandro Gelua (two sacks).

Up next for the Brahams is a Friday road date against Chino Don Lugo. The Conquistadores have gotten off to a 2-0 start with a 10-7 victory over Ontario Christian on Friday and a 28-14 Week 0 victory over Walnut.

Walnut is a fellow Hacienda League member of the Brahmas and should be a good way to measure the progress of Diamond Bar in the first month of the season.

"Don Lugo has been playing good football so far and should be a great test for us," Maine said."And that's what the preseason is all about."
