Diamond Bar Girls Softball Gearing Up For Spring
Registration starts Monday, and is open to girls between the ages of 4 to 18.
Coming off of a successful season that saw three teams make it to the state tournament, Diamond Bar Girls Softball is looking forward to Spring 2012.
Early registration starts Monday, November 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Round Table Pizza, 1220 S. Diamond Bar Blvd., Diamond Bar.
“All girls between the ages of 4 to 18 are welcome, no experience necessary,” said Coach Scott Flores.

While Diamond Bar Girls Softball is based in Diamond Bar, girls from all over the San Gabriel Valley and Inland Empire are part of the teams, as there is no residency requirement.
“The girls in our league have hearts of gold and their behavior on and off the field makes me very proud,” publicity chair Jill Ferris said.

Depending on how many girls sign up, there can be one, two or three teams in an age group.
“We try to accommodate everyone,” Ferris said. “We always try to make things fair and practical for all involved.”
The New York Times has reported that research shows young women involved in sports are more likely to achieve academically, have increased self-esteem, and learn crucial skills for entering a competitive workforce.
“Our family has only had a positive experience,” Ferris said. “We have met and made many good friends and we have always been supportive of one another's children. I have gotten to know some great families, even their pets, and really miss seeing them between seasons.”
In the spring, Flores was an assistant coach on the 10U All-Star team that, along with 8U and 14U teams, went to the state tournament in Lancaster.
“The state tournament was a great experience for both players and coaches,” he said. “All the teams at the state tournament were recognized for their success at their respective district tournament with a ceremony that began with a parade announcing each team and ended with the players pin trading with dozens of other softball leagues from all over Southern California. The girls had a great time.”
The teams spent two days playing top talent from around Southern California, and Flores hopes to see a repeat next season.
“It was a great experience for our players, coaches, parents and our league,” he said. “We are hoping to build off the success of last spring and summer with a strong spring registration.”
