Morgan Continues on Road to Olympics

The Diamond Bar grad is one of 28 women chosen to train with the US Women's National Soccer Team as it prepares for this summer's games in England.

Diamond Bar High grad Alex Morgan's route to the Olympics will now run through New Jersey.

She was one of 28 players chosen to participate in the US Women's National Soccer Team's training camp May 10-25 in Princeton, N.J. The camp is a precursor for pre-Olympic friendlies scheduled against China (May 27 in Chester, Pa.) and Canada (June 30 in Utah) before departing for the Olympics.

“We had a very productive camp in Florida, but now we get to look forward to a game,” said coach Pia Sundhage in a US Soccer news release. “The practices and scrimmages in Florida were physical and mentally taxing, and that was the plan. Now we can train hard in New Jersey but also prepare for a match against a very good team as we continue the roster selection process for the Olympics.”

Morgan, one of four forwards in the camp, has scored 22 goals for the national team, with eight more goals vaulting her into the top 15 all time.

The game against China will represent an anniversary of sort for Morgan. She scored her first full international goal when the US team played China in October 2010 at PPL Park in Chester, Pa.
