Panthers Run Past Chaffey to First Win of the Season, 29-6
Nick Gibson runs for 96 yards and a touchdown; he also caught a scoring pass from 22 yards.
POMONA – The Diamond Ranch Panthers picked up their first win of the season, as they easily dispatched of the visiting Chaffey Tigers 29-6 Thursday night in a final tune up for each team as they enter league play next week.
Diamond Ranch scored its first points on its very first possession. Chaffey’s punter was unable to cleanly field the snap, allowing it to go into the end zone where Juanya Austin was able to jump on the ball for the score.
“We knew that we will get only one shot at a blocked punt,” Diamond Ranch coach Roddy Layton said. “We talked about how they would hold on to the ball, and be content to get two yards on every four plays.”

Chaffey’s Joel Koloa led the charge for the Tigers’ running game, as he was able to amass 107 yards on 32 carries and the Tigers’ only score of the game.
Layton equates Chaffey’s running game to a rugby scrum.

“That’s Chaffey football,” he said. ”All we could do is to create a pile and hope not to get pushed back.”
The Panthers’ Nick Gibson ran for 96 yards on 26 carries and a touchdown. He also caught a scoring pass good for 22 yards.
“Defensively, we held them to only six points," Layton addressed his team after the game. “Offensively, we were able to run all over them. Good job, good job.”
Diamond Ranch (1-3) hosts last year’s CIF runners-up Bonita (1-2) in the Hacienda League opener for both teams.
“They did a good job against us last year, and gave us a good licking,” Layton said. “We’re going to be alright, though. We have a young team, and they’ll have one more day to prepare for the league opener.”
