Walnut Valley USD Trustees Celebrate Star Students, Parent Partners

WALNUT, CA—The Walnut Valley USD Board of Trustees kicked off the November 2 meeting recognizing stellar students and community partners.

Quail Summit Elementary fifth grader Cruz Coronado received the Super Star Student Award for academic achievement, hard work, and perseverance both in and outside the classroom. Cruz not only excels in academics, but also has an important “job” on campus. Cruz arrives early to school each morning to set up the playground equipment for students to enjoy, and then puts it away at the end of the day. Cruz is a great role model to his peers and younger students. He constantly stays on task, follows Quails Cares, and is thoughtful and intentional during interactions with those around him. “The kindness Cruz spreads does not go unnoticed!” shared Principal Nicole Hernandez.

Parent volunteer Renjielyn Gazzingan-Lu was honored with the Partner in Education Award for her commitment to Quail Summit students and staff. She is the current Community Club vice president and is organized, helpful, personable, and a friend to all. Renjie is also a technology “wiz” who creates beautiful documents and manages the Community Club Facebook page. “Renjie has become both a colleague and a good friend!” lauded Community Club President Angie Yung-Huey.

South Pointe Middle School eighth grader Caitlyn Morales received the Super Star Student Award. Caitlyn is a talented and well-rounded individual who maintains a 3.7 GPA while taking a rigorous course load including Mandarin Dual Language Immersion (DLI), Algebra, and Zero Period PE. Caitlyn serves as ASB president, Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council, and School Site Council representative. “Caitlyn is always willing to step up and take initiative to plan a new activity, lead a pep rally, or ask a peer to join her at lunch!” Interim Principal Norma Berrellez shared.

Community Club President Angie Chiao was lauded with the Partner in Education Award. Angie represents the voice of the South Pointe parent community and advocates for all students. Angie rallied families to raise over $30,000 to support technology, field trips, Renaissance Fair, and 8th Grade Promotion. She organized the back-to-school staff appreciation luncheon, vintage t-shirt sale to support ASB, assisted getting parent volunteers back on campus, and helped pilot the new Community Center. “Angie’s tireless efforts on behalf of all of South Pointe’s students have helped us to make a difference in our community and our school,” Berrellez added.
