• Invasive Aedes Aegypti Mosquitos Found in Discovery Bay (contracosta.news) — Residents in Discovery Bay are being urged to report daytime-biting mosquitoes and dump all standing water after officials confirmed invasive Aedes aegypti mosquitoes in town. The Contra Costa Mosquito and Vector Control District is expanding trapping and inspections locally and stresses that early community cooperation could prevent these disease-capable mosquitoes from becoming established. Free inspections and services are available through the District. 
• Agency launching three-year effort to strengthen community organizations (thepress.net) — Nonprofits that serve Discovery Bay can now apply for grants of $10,000 to $20,000 through a new three-year East Contra Costa capacity-building initiative funded by Measure X. The program offers free training plus $240,000 in 2026 sub-grants for smaller organizations focused on low- to moderate-income or marginalized residents. Applications are open now and due by Oct. 18.
