Boys Basketball: Dixon Tops Benicia on Half-Court Buzzer-Beater 72-69

Jeffrey Miner wins game as final horn sounds.

The Dixon High boys basketball team defeated Benicia 62-59 in a thrilling finish Tuesday night.

Rams guard Jeffrey Miner sank a desperation three-point shot from just in front of the half-court line for the final score Dixon (11-5) coach Sam Harrison said. 

"I love my kids," he said. "They just want to play hard and work as a unit."

Miner finished with 14 points. Jake Moraes led the Rams with 18 points. Michael Tomelloso had 17 points. 

Harrison said he started his second-stringers instead of his first string after observing something in pregame warmups.

"Their mind wasn’t right," he said. "So I said the kids on the bench, I’m going to start them. They (the starters) weren’t in the right mindset."

Dixon plays at Winters Saturday at 7 p.m.
