Coroner IDs Two Drivers Killed In Separate Accidents On I-80

The solo-vehicle crashes were both Sunday morning.

The Solano County coroner’s office has identified two drivers who were killed in separate solo vehicle crashes within 70 minutes of each other in the same area of Interstate Highway 80 in Fairfield on Sunday morning.

Lantz Jackson, 23, of Vallejo, was driving a 2004 Honda Accord at 100 mph and passing slower traffic in all lanes of eastbound I-80 west of Red Top Road around 6:50 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

Jackson lost control of the Honda and hit a guardrail on the right shoulder. He was not wearing a seat restraint and was ejected from the vehicle onto the right shoulder and No. 4 lane, CHP officials said.

Charles Barlow, 62, of Fairfield, was driving a 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser at 80 to 85 mph and passing slower traffic in the far left lane on eastbound I-80 west of Red Top Road around 8 a.m., CHP officials said. Barlow lost control of the Chrysler and ran off the highway through a perimeter fence onto McGary Road.

The car struck a tree head-on, apparently without any application of the brakes. Medics pronounced Barlow dead at the scene and he was also not wearing a seat restraint, according to the CHP.

McGary Road was shut down for 90 minutes for the investigation and to remove Barlow from the vehicle, CHP officials said.
