Dixon High Softball On a Roll; Baseball Edging Over .500 Mark

Both Rams teams are gearing up for stretch runs heading into the playoffs in a few weeks.

Softball

The Rams have started their Golden Empire League schedule with a bang, notching a 6-0 record so far this spring after losing three of their first four games.

Dixon has been led by Kristina Brown’s bat at the plate, who's currently hitting .541 with two home runs and 20 RBIs. Brown is the only Ram batting over .500 and her RBI total is double of what her next closest teammates – Jenna Bassler and Julia Ratterman each have 10.

On the mound, Bassler has been commanding while being a workhorse, having thrown in 49 of Dixon’s 63 innings played this year. She has an ERA of 2.29 and recorded 49 strikeouts.

So far this week, Dixon hosted and defeated Lindhurst on Wednesday, rolling to an 11-4 victory.

The Rams played West Campus in a doubleheader Tuesday, losing the first game 8-7 but rebounding to take the second 8-3.

Coach Scott Winslow said Matthew Rebholtz’s performance in their victory really pushed Dixon over the top.

“We were really struggling in the first half and he really brought us back,” Winslow said.

Jared Owens went 3-for-4 for the Rams in their 4-0 defeat at Marysville on Monday.

“He’s on fire,” Winslow said. “He’s swinging the bat really well.”

With Tuesday’s split in the doubleheader, the Rams move to 5-4 in GEL play and will host Lindhurst next Tuesday at 4 p.m.
