Dixon Varsity Baseball Shut Out By Winters

Winters held Dixon scoreless for seven innings as the Rams lost 9-0.

The Dixon boy's varsity baseball team lost their first game back from spring break falling 9-0 against the Winters High School Warriors in a non-league game. This loss drops the Rams to 5-8-1 overall, 5-1 in league.

"We had the whole week off for spring break and we were really rusty," said Dixon Head Coach Scott Winslow. "We weren’t sharp. There were some kids that didn’t even remember the signals."

Catron Derek made just his second start for the Rams, going two innings, giving up two hits, three runs, four walks, and striking out three batters. Nathan Karber replaced him in the third and went two innings before being replaced in the fifth by Christopher Rost who finished out the game.

Combined, the Dixon pitching staff walked 11, gave up 10 hits, and posted 11 Ks. Winters scored in every inning except the seventh. They did the most damage in the fourth inning, scoring four runs off of four hits.

AJ Bell led the Rams' offense, reaching base safely in the fifth and seventh innings off of singles. Korey Hall, Johnny Feely, and Jeff Minor also had base hits in the game. Jojo Quintanilla doubled to lead off the fourth, but was left stranded.

Warriors pitcher Austin Calvert struck out every member of the Dixon squad at least once, going all seven innings.

"I have a really young team so for these non-league games that don’t affect our standings I really work on player development rather than bringing our best players out to try and win the game," said Winslow. "That’s why our non-league games look so lopsided versus our league scores."

The Rams next game is scheduled for Tuesday at 3:30 against Woodland Christian in Dixon.
