Early Morning Fiery Crash Sunday Closes Hwy 780 in Benicia
One of the drivers involved in the collision became combative with police, and officers detained the driver.

California Highway Patrol officers are investigating a fiery multi-vehicle traffic collision Sunday morning on Interstate Highway 780, in Benicia.
At 12:25 a.m. Sunday, the CHP first received a report of the collision, happening in the highway’s eastbound lanes, just east of the East Fifth Street exit, according to CHP officials.
Officers learned a gray SUV had struck another vehicle, before crashing into a wall. One of the vehicles then caught on fire, CHP officials said.

Around 12:42, the CHP issued a Sig-alert, closing the highway’s eastbound lanes, as officials investigated the collision.
Benicia police also assisted with the investigation.
