The World's Largest Swimming Lesson

The City of Davis is participating in the World’s Largest Swim Lesson (WLSL) to bring awareness of the importance of teaching children to swim to help prevent drowning. Simultaneously at 8am PST, around the world, hundreds of organizations will offer the lesson in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record ™.

Tragically, drowning is the second cause of unintended injury-related death of children ages 1-14 in the US. In fact, more than one in four fatal drowning victims are children aged 14 and younger. The WLSL program works to promote drowning prevention through education by focusing the energy of thousands of participants on a clear and specific message all at the same time.  In 2010, aquatic facilities, ranging from New York to California, Mexico to Dubai, all taught the same swimming lesson at the same time with one goal in mind-send the message that Swimming Lessons Save Lives ™.

This event is open to persons 4 years and older - adults are welcome too!
