Fairfield School Locked Down This Morning After Felon Runs Into Nurse's Office While Fleeing Police

The 24 year old from Fairfield was arrested inside Cleo Gordon Elementary School for a slew of drug and gun charges.

A Fairfield man was arrested this morning after fleeing police and running into an elementary school and after leaving a loaded gun in his car, according to law enforcement.

The incident began as a Fairfield Police Department officer today at 9:15 a.m. attempted to stop a motorist in the 800 block of East Tabor Avenue for allegedly talking on a cell phone while driving. The male, however, initially pulled over, then sped off, ditching the vehicle near Cardinal and Finch ways.

The suspect, later identified as Garland Callum, 24 from Fairfield, ran toward Cleo Gordon Elementary School, police said.

The school was locked down, and Cleo Gordon school staff called police to report the man was in the school nurse’s office, where he was taken into custody without further incident, police said.

Callum was allegedly in possession of suspected heroin, and a loaded firearm was located inside his vehicle, police said.

Cleo Gordon remained locked down for approximately 20 minutes as officers searched the campus to ensure the suspect had not discarded harmful items, police said.

Callum was arrested and booked into Solano County Jail for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance for sale, transportation of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance while armed with a firearm, possession of a loaded gun in a vehicle, being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, evading an officer, driving on a suspended license, resisting arrest and violation of probation, police said.
