Firefighter Cadets to Graduate

The Fire Fighter I Academy has a 99% graduation rate.

Solano Community College (SCC) is celebrating the graduation of its 94th Fire Academy, graduating 18 cadets on Friday, December 12, 2014, at the SCC Vacaville Center. The ceremony will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. Chief Vince Webster, Fairfield Fire Department (Retired), will be the keynote speaker.

The College’s Fire Fighter I Academy has a 99% graduation rate. Cadets must complete a one-year internship prior to being hired by a fire department.

Richard MacKenzie, SCC Academy Administrator/Fire Instructor, commented, “The Fire Fighter I Academy prepares cadets for careers in Fire Rescue. I, along with Chief Curt Henke, Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department (Retired), and Chief Steve Vucurevich, Benicia Fire Department (Retired), are graduates of the SCC Fire Academy. The program has been revamped with an increase in required hours. In addition, the course content meets state requirements to become a Fire Fighter. This academy makes the students more marketable and prepared to enter the field. I am proud to be a graduate of the program and thirty plus years later, come full circle to teach and mentor cadets!”
