Solano Youth Spearhead Holiday Food Drive
Support the collection effort for Mission Solano and donate canned food at two locations!

SOLANO COUNTY, CA – The Solano Youth Coalition is partnering with Mission Solano to assist in this year’s annual canned food drive, and they are asking for your help to reach their goal of filling as many food bins as possible before the holidays!
SYC is a youth advocacy group representing Solano County that promotes an emerging generation of socially conscious students dedicated to empowering others, as well as themselves through community-based, service-learning projects.
“The holidays are quickly approaching, which should be a time of joy, love and laughter; but unfortunately, for many families that is not the case. With that in mind, SYC has already begun collecting canned and non-perishable food donations. The donations we receive will go to help the less fortunate, homeless and foster youth throughout Solano County,” says Sara Stamps, adviser of the Solano Youth Coalition.

More than 2.4 percent, or 1,531 of students enrolled in public schools in Solano County, were recorded as being homeless at any point during the school year according to Kidsdata.org. SYC recognizes that the homeless population is most vulnerable to food insecurity, and are happy to be working with Mission Solano, an agency that not only offers services to the homeless, but also foster youth, veterans, and local food pantries.
In 2015 alone Mission Solano provided more than 210,000 meals to families and veterans.

If you would like to help the Solano Youth Coalition reach its goal, the canned food drive runs through Dec. 20 and has two drop-off locations.
