Suspected Drunk Driver Injures Pedestrian Over Weekend

The accident was Saturday night in Fairfield.

A 61-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries Saturday night in Fairfield after he was struck by an SUV as he was crossing the street.

At 8:50 p.m. police received a report regarding a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle on East Tabor Avenue, just east of North Texas Street, police said. When officers arrived, they found the victim unconscious in the street, according to police.

The driver of the SUV, 40-year-old Fairfield resident Hamu Kalibi, stopped and remained at the scene, according to police.

Emergency personnel transported the victim to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said. Officers arrested Kalibi on suspicion of driving under the influence causing injury, according to police.
