Whoa! Woman Nabbed After Leading Cops On High-Speed Chase Through Vacaville, Benicia, Vallejo, Fairfield

Police arrested a Vallejo woman on Friday after she led police and California Highway Patrol officers on a high-speed chase through four cities and allegedly attempted to ram a police cruiser with her car, Benicia police said today.

Just before 9 p.m. on Friday, Benicia police responded to a report of a suspicious person in the 100 block of First Street, police said.

Officers tried to speak with the woman, identified as Shera Woody, 38, of Vallejo, who police said matched the description of the suspicious person.

Woody reportedly refused to speak with the officer and police said she instead got into a black Audi A4 with expired registration tags. The officer tried to make a traffic enforcement stop, but police said Woody ignored the cruiser’s lights and sirens.

She swerved into the southbound lane and accelerated towards an oncoming Benicia police cruiser in an apparent attempt to collide with the car, police said.

Woody then led Benicia police on a high-speed chase through the city onto Interstate Highway 780 and Interstate Highway 80 through Vallejo, Fairfield and Vacaville at speeds of more than 90 miles per hour, police said.

Once she got to Vacaville, police said she took the Davis Street exit and got back onto Highway 80. Benicia police said CHP and Vallejo police also joined in the chase, with CHP taking the lead.

The chase ended at a 5 Star gas station, located at 101 Lincoln Road West in Vallejo, where a Vallejo police K-9 assisted the officers in taking Woody into custody.

Woody was transported to Kaiser Permanente Vallejo Medical Center, where she received treatment for minor injuries inflicted by the K-9, police said.

Police said Woody was booked in the Solano County Jail on suspicion of felony charges of evading police, resisting arrest and assault with a deadly weapon (a vehicle) on a police officer.
