DUBLIN, CA — One person died and two more are in critical condition following a five-car collision on Dublin Boulevard near H-Mart Monday, Dublin police confirmed.

Police were dispatched at around 1:42 p.m. to a collision on westbound Dublin Boulevard, just east of Regional Street, according to DPS Captain Miguel Campos. According to a preliminary investigation, a red Lexus ES 350 drove westbound on Dublin Boulevard at a high rate of speed, and crashed into the back of a gray Volkswagen Jetta in the right-hand turn lane east of Regional Street.

Police said that the Lexus did not appear to brake before the crash, which caused a chain reaction collision involving four other cars. All five affected vehicles were disabled.

DPS units arrived and began lifesaving interventions on one of the occupants, while Alameda County Fire Department personnel used the jaws of life to extract several occupants.

Four people were transported to local hospitals, Campos said. One of the occupants in the affected vehicles died, and two more are in critical condition as of Tuesday.

Westbound Dublin Boulevard was closed from Golden Gate Drive to Regional Street until around 6:30 p.m. Monday.

Police continue to investigate. They currently do not believe alcohol or drug intoxication do not appear to be factors in the collision.
