A pickup truck overturned and ended up on a guardrail in the crash, which involved multiple vehicles and shut down multiple lanes.

LIVERMORE, CA — A SigAlert was issued and the right three lanes of eastbound I-580 just east of North Livermore Avenue were closed following a fatal, multi-vehicle crash, according to CHP and 511.org. This is the second fatality of the day on I-580, after a wrong-way driver was killed at 2:50 a.m. on westbound I-580 near Oakland.

The Livermore incident began at around 7 a.m. Thursday, when a crash involved a pickup truck, a BMW, and a semi-trailer, according to the CHP log. The pickup truck flipped over, landed on the center divider, and ended up stuck perched on the guardrail. A Toyota Tundra, Nissan, and possibly other vehicles were also involved, CHP said.

By 7:08 a.m., all lanes of eastbound I-580 in the area were temporarily blocked to clear debris. CHP confirmed in an Instagram post at 7:50 a.m. that they are investigating a fatal crash and the right three lanes are closed. 511.org said that a SigAlert was issued, and the right and center lanes were blocked. Significant traffic remains in the eastbound lane near the intersection with SR-84 as of 8:55 a.m., according to 511.
